If you found Rhys Millen's 5.0-liter V8-powered Genesis Coupe a little bit over the top, you may want to take a look at a supercharged prototype based on the V6 model that also made its debut at the Las Vegas SEMA Show.
Named the Genesis Coupe Hurricane SC, the prototype is the result of a two year development effort of Hyundai America Technical Center Inc. (HATCI) in cooperation with Magnuson Products, Rhys Millen Racing, Harman International and Torvec Inc.
“One of the many exciting aspects of this project is that the Genesis Hurricane SC is not just another pretty face for the show circuit, but rather it is a hard working lab-rat that will push the bounds of this car and the whole vehicle segment," said Terry Peddicord, director of sales at Magnuson Products.
At the center of the tune is Hyundai's 3.8-liter V6 engine that has been upgraded with a supercharger, a liquid to air intercooler, a free flowing sport exhaust system and many more performance components to producing over 450-horsepower.
“The supercharger creates a modest six to seven pounds of boost which generates a 35-45 percent increase in horsepower and torque and can be easily modified to deliver even higher boost levels,” said Peddicord.
Torvec Inc. developed an IsoTorque differential to improve handling and traction capability with the company claiming that it helps deliver nearly a one second per lap improvement in the Genesis Coupe on the Hyundai road course.
The prototype Genesis Coupe also gets a stiffer Bilstein suspension and a Brembo six piston brake kit with cross drilled front and rear rotors, while the car rides on 19-inch alloy wheels with Hankook high performance tires size 245/40 at the front and 275/35 at the back.
A Rhys Millen Racing (RMR) aero package that includes a front bumper, grille, hood, side skirts, diffuser and rear deck with spoiler, and various updates in the interior such as the Katzkin custom premium leather and suede seats accented with blue inserts, round out the changes.
