Jeepster was produced from 1948 to 1950. PHOTO GALLERY

Now here’s something you don't see very often: a 1967 Jeep Jeepster Commando Convertible that has been listed for sale on eBay. But how about a little history before we see what the "deal" with this eBay find is?

Willys-Overland Motors introduced the Jeepster nameplate after the end of WWII as the company attempted to create a vehicle that would bridge the gap between trucks and passenger vehicles. The original Jeepster was produced from 1948 to 1950.

After Kaiser absorbed Willys-Overland Motors in the mid-1950s, the company re-introduced the nameplate in 1966 with the new Jeepster Commando that proved to be more successful than the original model. It was eventually offered in three body styles including pickup truck, convertible and wagon.

The Jeepster remained in production even after Kaiser's acquisition by American Motors Corporation (AMC) in 1970, though the latter shortened its name to Commando from 1972 to 1973 when it was replaced by the full size Cherokee.

This particular Jeepster Commando is a 1967 convertible model from the Kaiser era. It combines the optional 225-cubic inch “Dauntless V6" producing 160HP instead of the base "Hurricane" inline-four that generated a measly 75-ponies, with an all-wheel drive system.

According to the seller, the vehicle features matching chassis and engine numbers and has been fully restored to its original condition including the Teal and White Exterior paint over a Teal interior. It also comes with the original folding top with glass rear window as well as the optional “Continental” spare tire with cover, and hubcaps.

The buy it now price on eBay motors is US$16,880.

Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 V6 Diesel Photos

Jeep claims that it has created the premium SUV market almost 20 years ago with the first generation of the Grand Cherokee (though Mercedes’ M-Class may actually have a better claim on the word “premium”, but whatever…). We’ve already seen the latest iteration of Jeep’s iconic 4x4, and we must admit that, on paper at least, it looks like a significant leap forward from its predecessors.

This is accomplished by being based on a new (Mercedes M-Class derived) platform which aims for much improved driving characteristics and cabin quality, while retaining the off-road capabilities that it has became famous for.

Now the Grand Cherokee is available in right-hand drive in the UK in two versions, Limited and Overland. Both are powered by a 237-bhp 3.0-litre CRD common-rail turbo diesel which offers improved fuel economy (Jeep claims up to 39/34 mpg (UK/US respectively), or 6,0 liters/100 km and a maximum range of 700 miles (1,125 km) – a sound choice given the oil prices in Europe and its buyers' dislike of fuel-guzzling SUVs.

Pricing for the new Grand Cherokee starts at £36,795 for the Limited edition, while the top-of-the-line Overland starts from £43,995. And then there’s, of course, the options list…

Multiple 2011MY Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep Vehicles

A dozen vehicles from the three core Chrysler brands covering more than half of the company’s 2011 models are being recalled in the United States to fix a potential problem with the steering column.

The recall covers 11,351 vehicles and affects certain 2011 model year Dodge Journey crossovers, Jeep Wranglers, Chrysler 200s, Chrysler 200 Convertibles, Dodge Avengers, Dodge Nitros, Jeep Liberty SUVs, Dodge Calibers, Jeep Compass crossovers, Jeep Patriots, Dodge Grand Caravans and Chrysler Town & Country minivans.

The Detroit automaker told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration [NHTSA] that certain vehicles “may have been built with a missing or incorrectly installed steering column pivot rivet”, and that the defect could “compromise the ability of the steering column to support the occupant loads in the event of a frontal crash.”

Chrysler said it expects to begin the recall process before the end of June.

Teen Girl Rams Stolen Jeep Wrangler into a Church During Police Pursuit [with Video]

A police video camera has captured the pursuit of a speeding Jeep Wrangler that ended with the 4x4 plowing a Church in Socastee, South Carolina on Friday. The driver turned out to be a 15-year-old girl who had stolen the red-colored Wrangler. Despite the severity of the crash, the teenage girl managed to escape with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

As you can see in the police clip after the break, the young girl told officers that she “was trying to kill herself” because she “hates her life”. A sad story indeed, but then again, it could have easily ended much, much worse that it did….

Chrysler Group to Unveil New Production Model and a Race-Inspired Study at New York Auto Show

We’re used to the Chrysler Group unveiling new or heavily refreshed models lately, and it looks like the company will keep the product momentum going at next week’s New York International Auto Show. According to a brief statement from the Detroit automaker, the company is planning the premiere of an unnamed production model and what is being described as a “race-inspired project vehicle” at the Big Apple. Chrysler is being quite secretive about the debuts as the company did not give out any other details.

In addition, the Detroit automaker said it will announce a new strategic relationship that will “enhance its service and parts business”, again without providing any further information on the matter.

We’ll keep a close eye on the story and post a update as soon as we receive any news. Until then, feel free to speculate on the models the Chrysler Group plans to reveal at the New York Show.

Project Kahn have released photos and details on their latest offering based on the Jeep Wrangler

The tuners over at Project Kahn have released photos and details on their latest offering based on the Jeep Wrangler. The restrained tuning programme is limited to a cosmetic touch up of the popular 4x4 model. On the outside, Project Kahn’s team added a set of new 20-inch RS alloy wheels wrapped around beefy 275/55 tires. Upon request, the Wrangler can be finished in either black or silver with matching alloy wheels.

The tuner then turns its attention on the interior which is said (Project Kahn did not release any pictures of the cabin) to benefit from a bespoke leather treatment with the company also offering further customization options. And well, that’s about it.
