Toyota Prius Radical 2015 Photos

As part of last year’s Toyota Design Internship, industrial designer Eric Leong produced this interesting take on the fourth-generation Toyota Prius for the year 2015.

By acknowledging that wind resistance is one of the key factors in improving vehicle economy, Leong’s Prius III hybrid is extremely slippery. Described by the designer as moving, “through [the wind], not into it”, this design study channels air over its surface through a series of vanes.

And there are some nice little design touches as well such as the wraparound glasshouse, one-piece windscreen and roof and the transparent wing mirror arms / turn indicators.

There’s something about this design study; it reminds me of ItalDesign’s concepts of the 1980s and 1990s. You can check out our gallery of images below or leave a comment if you wish.

Toyota FT HS Concept

Toyota FT HS Concept
The Toyota FT-HS is a hybrid sports car concept introduced at the 2007 North American International Auto Show. Calty Design Research designed the concept and suggests that it could fill the place of the Toyota Supra.FT-HS stands for Future Toyota Hybrid Sport.
The goal of the rear wheel drive hybrid powertrain is to produce 400 hp (300 kW) and achieve 0-60 mph in around 4 seconds. This is accomplished by combining a 3.5 L V6 and an electric motor in a manner similar to the Lexus GS450h. Unlike the GS (and virtually all other current hybrids), a production version of the FT-HS would make use of a capacitor system designed specifically for quick charging and increased performance. Since the debut of this concept, Toyota has exhibited such technology in the Supra HV-R race car.The 2+2 vehicle features a unique retractable roof similar to a targa top. The rear seats would be folded down when the roof is retracted however. In spite of the FT-HS being only a concept vehicle, Toyota's desired starting price for such a vehicle is stated to be in the mid $30,000 range.
An August 2008 article from Automotive News indicated that a production version was no longer being considered. However, a January 2009 article from Edmunds Inside Line states that "the V6 Supra replacement is still in the pipeline and is set for an early 2011 debut"

Four Wheel Magazine’s Project Toyota 4Runner Backcountry bows at SEMA

Do you consider yourself an avid off-road enthusiast, who hangs out more in the wilderness than in the urban jungle? Then Four Wheel Magazine's Project Toyota 4Runner Backcountry might be the vehicle for you. This special 4Runner concept is part of Toyota's 2010 SEMA line-up and is said to have been built as a "self-contained exploration rig."
There's no eye-catching livery here, but a plain white finish. Chances are that only real off-road connoisseurs will know that something's up with this car. And they're right.
The stock suspension has been replaced by heavy-duty Old Manu Emu (OME) parts. New springs and shock absorbers are used, in conjunction with a 2.5 inch lift, making it more capable in rough terrain.
The builders didn't stop there, as Falken Wildpeak A/T tires (P285/70 R17), wrapped around Teflon-coated ATX Mojave wheels, give this bad boy another half an inch of ride height.
Complete with EVO Manufacturing rock sliders, the Backcountry is 3-inches taller than its mundane sibling.
But ground clearance is nothing without efficient power distribution. This is where the ARB front Air Locker shines and, if the going gets real tough, there's also a Warn XD9000 winch, mounted on an ARB Deluxe Bull Bar. You can also rely on two additional HID (High-Intensity Discharge) driving lights to navigate in low light conditions.
Pretty awesome stuff, that promise -at least on paper- to get you to your destination. Once there, your life will be made easier by the rooftop tent, roof rack mounted lights and a 13-gallon water tank, with a hose attached to it.
A complete array of communication and navigational instruments have been integrated into the cabin, most of them using the factory switch blanks, so there's no clutter or lost space.
So, open that ARB fridge and have a beer. An off-roader's life seldom gets any better than this.

SEMA 2010: Sienna Swagger Wagon Supreme pops some Viagra, grows 44 inches

Apparently stretched Toyotas are going to be a big thing at SEMA this year. After recently revealing Cartel's "All Stretched Out" Scion xB, it now appears that Toyota will also show off a limousine/rolling office Sienna at SEMA in order to commemorate the popularity of its "Swagger Wagon" video.

Built in partnership with B.A.D. Company, the V6-powered "Swagger Wagon Supreme" wears a coat of Blue Swagger Opal and been stretched 44 inches. Also, this Sienna now rides on 20-inch KMC rims that hide an airbag suspension setup to make it more comfortable and easier to drive on the open road (...).

Due to the 44-inch extension, the roof panel has been replaced with an acrylic unit measuring about 8 feet. The new roof is meant to improve the "functional family vehicle's" interior ambiance.

Toyota outfitted the Swagger Wagon's interior with standard XLE amenities, but B.A.D. Company is the firm that threw in some extra flavor in the form of reversible seat cushions (to appeal to both children and adults), swiveling captain's chairs (one of which is a massaging "Spa Seat"), a Brazilian cherry hardwood floor, full JBL audio system, and more. Go ahead and scroll down for the full list from the press release.

Barring the silly airbag setup, dubs, and mega extension, the interior of this looks fit to compete with all those fancy Escalade-based rolling offices. Sadly, the movers and shakers who purchase those wouldn't be caught dead in a Sienna.
